Description
The Boys & Girls Club of Riverton is proud to honor Mary Axthelm at the 5th Annual Awards & Recognition Breakfast on April 23rd at the Fremont Center for her unwavering dedication to the Riverton community and her instrumental role in shaping the future of local youth.
Mary Axthelm has dedicated nearly three decades to enriching lives in Riverton. As the Program Director for ‘R’ Recreation at Central Wyoming College, she has fostered connection, growth, and recreation in the community. Her tireless efforts, from leading local youth sports leagues to launching ‘R’ Recreation, have created lasting opportunities for families and youth in Riverton. Her proudest achievement is helping bring the Boys & Girls Club to Riverton in 2020, and in August 2024, the Club moved to its new location at 510 N. 1st Street.
Mary has been married to Mike, her college sweetheart, for 30 years. Together, they have two sons, a daughter-in-law, and the coolest job of all—grandparents to one beloved grandbaby. Along the way, Mary has faced significant health challenges, including overcoming breast cancer twice. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “Through it all, I’ve never walked alone. God has been my constant strength, guiding me through the darkest moments and giving me the courage to keep going. Each trial has deepened my faith and reminded me that the obstacles I’ve faced were not meaningless—they’ve shaped me into the person I am today.”
Mary has seen firsthand the transformative impact the Boys & Girls Club has on local families. “The Club is a foundation for kids to grow, learn, and dream,” she said. “It’s a gift to this community that I am honored to have been part of creating.”
The breakfast will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, at the Fremont Center. Doors open at 6:15 a.m., breakfast will be served at 6:30 a.m., and the program will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m.
There is no cost to attend, but guests are encouraged to make a meaningful contribution to support the Club’s programs, which have an annual operating budget of $510,000. To register, please visit bgccw.org/events.
